Breath-taking new holiday rental near Eastbourne. Simply stunning accommodation!

Holiday cottage at Friston DownWhen you’re lucky enough to live and work with the sea and beach at the end of the road, when you run along Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters as a matter of course and when you help manage some of the finest holiday homes around Eastbourne, it’s easy to become rather blase about our neck of the woods.

But you should have heard my in-take of breath as I approached Friston Down!

Sunset at Friston

As I parked in the courtyard, racehorses were galloping along the downs below us, lambs were gamboling in the field over the fence and birds celebrating the genuine arrival of spring.

The Cottage at Friston Down is an annexe to the main country house, set within expansive gardens, with 3-bedrooms, a private entrance and access to a swimming pool. And have I mentioned the setting?!

Friston itself is a delightful village that sits on the South Downs, just 4 miles West of Eastbourne, with majestic views towards the Seven Sisters and the English Channel and provides a gateway to the South Downs National Park.

Country house with swimming poolEnjoy a sunny lunch on the private terrace, a dip in the pool or cycle and walk along the South Downs Way which literally runs along the front of the grounds. Stroll down into East Dean for a hearty meal at the Tiger Inn or award-winning Thai Terre restaurant on the the green, soak in the history of the Saxon and Norman influenced church or hop onto a frequent bus into Brighton for the buzz of their creative scene.

If that sounds interesting I suggest you email info@exclusivelyeastbourne.co.uk or phone Carl & Sarah on +44 (0)1323 722774 for more details or to book this fabulous holiday home near Eastbourne and Brighton.

Since it’s only just come within our holiday accommodation all keys dates are currently still available and prices start from just £950 in the summer.

Maybe after a week or so you might just get nonchalant about those views too. But I doubt it!

Idyllic holiday cottage near Lewes – take a look!

By , April 3, 2013 6:56 pm

Find your own eggs at this self catering cottage near Lewes!Imagine 5 acres of grounds in idyllic Sussex countryside, with woodland beckoning beyond.

Chickens, geese and ducks pottering around outside and the first cuckoo of the Spring making themselves heard above the crackling wood stove in the lounge.

City life seems a long, long way away.

We’ve just taken on delightful Newick Cottage; 2-bedroom holiday accommodation in a gloriously unspoilt village, just 10 minutes from Lewes, complete with countryside pubs and a renowned Tandoori (I know, why in a countryside village? But it just works!) and access to all that is good about our Green and Pleasant Land.

Glyndebourne Opera FestivalIf you can break the children away from another egg hunt in the garden, perhaps you’ll discover Bluebell Railway (with steam trains operating on a heritage line), have a flutter on the horses at Plumpton Races and spend the winnings on a new frock for the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, all within easy reach.

You’ll need at least a week to take in the sights – the well-heeled market town of Lewes, complete with medieval castle, innumerable bookshops and indulgent cafes, deserves a couple of days, together with a large empty boot in the car to store all the antiques you’ve picked up along the high street.

Bluebell Railway in East SussexWalk off the cake by hiking sections of the South Downs Way or amble along the River Ouse, with a bank-side brewery tour of Harveys, to appreciate the local ale.

And then sleep it all off, back in your cosy cabin, watching (wild)life go by.

Brr, but beautiful in Eastbourne right now – time to think of a holiday to warm you up?

By , January 23, 2013 2:06 pm

I’m looking out the window this morning at clear blue skies and a snow-free landscape for the first time a in a few days. Beautiful but brr.

If you’re suffering from January blues perhaps you need to be transported to a warmer scene. The UK’s sunniest place, maybe, with balmy breezes, breathtaking scenery and beach-side cafes?

Eastbourne might not be on everyone’s radar but I’m definitely feeling a positive vibe about the place, with media coverage increasing and more guests staying in our accommodation whilst on a search for either a holiday home or even to re-locate completely away from the city and corporate grind.

It isn’t just the sunshine and temperatures that are uplifting. The creative scene is rapidly improving as well.

Take OperaCoast– a weekend operatic course that takes place in July in Eastbourne.

Immerse yourself in the world of opera with the help of top professionals and in the company of other opera-lovers. There will be auditions for principal roles but anyone with some experience of singing and the ability to learn music independently is welcome to join the chorus.

If you need a more immediate creative fix, Towner Eastbourne has Bon Hiver; A journey through a Winter landscaperunning until March 3.

I’ve just take an atmospheric meander through The Forked Forest Path by Olafur Eliasson (best known for his Weather Project installation in Tate’s Turbine Hall), popping out the other side to enjoy Eric Ravilious’ Downs in Winter, so the strong link with landscape is retained throughout. Well worth a visit, especially when it’s free!

I certainly feel optimistic for the year ahead in Eastbourne and I suggest you temporarily forget about wind chill and thermal underwear and book a warming break by the sea right now.

The accommodation is ideally located, moments from the Eastbourne seafront and town centre and all its attractions, including the pier, theatres, and cafes, but on a tranquil side-street.

Go foraging in Eastbourne!

By , November 8, 2012 5:24 pm

People say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but they’ve surely never visited Beachy Head and the South Downs near Eastbourne. It’s a treasure trove of goodies up there!

We’re now into November now but given the berries on offer you can certainly fill the freezer to get you through the winter. All that vitamin C should keep the bugs at bay over the colder months!

And then there’s is the fungi – I’m a bit wary of the fancier varieties but even I can recognise a field mushroom when I fall over them – they’re literally strewn all over Beachy Head and all but a few people walk straight on by them.

But if furtive wandering around the undergrowth fills you with fear how about casting a line into the English channel and picking up mackerel, assorted flatfish and, if you’re prepared to do some homework, a majestic sea bass? I head out after them on a kayak, but there’s a fishing club at the end of the pier who will hire you the appropriate kit or you can bring your own and simply try your luck from the beach.

Of course, it’s always a delight to enjoy the fruits of your labour, but simply being out there in the fresh air with a truly inspiring backdrop is usually enough and, besides, the kids sleep for about 14 hours after charging around the greenery so everyone’s a winner.

If you fancy a holiday do call us on 01323 722774 and we can provide you with some lovely apartments and houses for a short stay in Eastbourne – obviously, your self catering accommodation will come with a fully equipped kitchen complete with a fridge to fill with your plunder.

Things to do in Eastbourne – Fly a kite on the South Downs!

By , October 24, 2012 3:07 pm

Eastbourne is blessed with some beautiful and varied natural scenery, with Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters and South Downs right on its doorstep.

The views from the cliffs and ridges make a trip worthwhile, but in order to get the heart racing and to keep the children and whole family excited I suggest you pop a kite in the backpack and at the first promise of a blue sky and a breeze take to the hills!

Our eldest recently received a kite for his 5th birthday and given that the sun was shining this weekend, with the wind rustling nicely in the trees, I thought I’d rally the clan for a few hours of fresh air.

What could make for a more perfect day out with the family? The sun dazzled, the kite remained airborne and the children captivated.

If you would like any advice on things to do in Eastbourne and East Sussex or to discuss how we can help find you the right accommodation in Eastbourne please call us on +44 (0)1323 722774 or email info@exclusivelyeastbourne.co.uk

More media sun shines on Eastbourne

By , August 25, 2012 4:31 pm

Not only is Eastbourne blessed as the sunniest place in the UK, but it is also recognised by a growing audience of travel writers as a place on the up.

The article highlights that this part of the Sussex coast is not only more affordable than our flashier neighbour Brighton, but elegant with bags of old-school charm.

There is still a considerable job to be done to shift the perception of our town as the old lady of the south coast, but perhaps this is why the beach always offers a sense of space, the pier remains charming and fabulous housing within the reach of everyday folk.

Nice to see the article also recommending our sister business, The Guesthouse East, as the place to stay for young families. The beach might be pebbly, but the water is clear and swimming safe meaning that the Eastbourne seafront is always popular with families.

Our blog writer, Carl Stanger, has also received recognition as a finalist in MyTravelMoney.co.uk’s Top 10 lifestyle blogs, following on from Lastminute.com’s Top 10 Travel blogs for The Guesthouse East’s blog.

The award-winning guest house in Eastbourne is unique, offering 4-star silver-rated self catering suites by the night.

Another recommendation for Eastbourne – this time in The Guardian

By , August 5, 2012 10:48 am

There is a growing recognition that the more traditional coastal venues in the UK still offer genuine appeal.

In The Guardian yesterday was a lovely piece looking at 10 traditional seaside breaks, kicking off with Eastbourne, highlighting that not all resorts have to constantly re-invent themselves like Brighton or Whitstable, but can offer gloriously traditional fun.

Hurrah we say!

There is no doubt that Eastbourne, Britain’s sunniest spot, offers a wonderful array of entertainment, from the physical spectacle of the Seven Sisters (the highest point on the south coast) and the four-mile stretch of dazzling shingle, to the cultural delights of the four theatres and first rate Towner gallery.

The town has sought to retain all that was good in the original plans of the Duke of Devonshire from the 1850s, with grand buildings and wide streets, and the charming Grade II-listed pier and bandstand (the busiest in the country).

Nice to see that our sister business, The Guesthouse East, was recommended within the article as the best accommodation for families with their self catering suites.
